RCMP Unveils New Youth Crime Prevention Website

Sept. 18, 2013 – Ottawa – They’re back to school for another year – and the RCMP is proud to provide a new resource to help our youth navigate some of the issues they’re facing today.

The Centre for Youth Crime Prevention (CYCP), created by the RCMP’s National Crime Prevention Services, aims to provide evidence-based and age-appropriate crime prevention messages, information, and tools to prevent youth crime and victimization. Along with youth themselves, educators, parents, and anyone else who works or interacts with youth will benefit from these resources.

Working with youth is one of the RCMP’s strategic priorities. This website builds on over 15 years of success of its previous youth website DEAL.org, and includes many new features including:

  • “Ask an Expert” which allows web users to ask questions to experts on various issues related to youth crime and victimization

  • “What’s Trending” which invites web users to let us know what is going on in their communities via social media

  • Interactive learning tools which include useful fact sheets and lesson plans on a variety of youth-related issues including substance abuse, bullying/cyberbullying, dating and family violence
